A lot of people believe a myth today: that gun control and gun-free zones make us safer. It sounds good—limit who can have guns, create places where guns aren’t allowed, and people will be safe. But when we look at real-life facts, it tells a different story. Gun control and gun-free zones often end up helping dangerous people instead of protecting innocent ones.
Most mass shootings in the United States happen in gun-free zones. A study by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) showed that between 1950 and 2018, 94% of mass shootings happened in places where people weren’t allowed to carry guns. The reason is simple: bad people prefer easy targets. Mass shooters want to hurt as many people as possible without anyone stopping them. Gun-free zones make this easier. The same idea applies when the government passes strict gun laws—they make the whole country full of easy targets.
This is why the idea of the “good guy with a gun” is so important. Even though the news doesn’t talk about it much, armed citizens have stopped many mass shootings before they could become worse. In 2021, the FBI reported that out of 50 active shooter incidents, armed citizens successfully stopped 4 of them. That might not sound like a lot, but it doesn’t count the many times responsible gun owners stopped violence before it even became news. These stories are often ignored because they don’t fit the popular story about guns being bad. But guns in the hands of responsible people save lives.
Take the example of the West Freeway Church of Christ shooting in White Settlement, Texas. An armed church member stopped the attacker in seconds, saving many lives. This story was briefly in the news but quickly disappeared, while debates about gun control continued. It’s important to see that responsible gun ownership can make a huge difference in stopping bad situations from getting worse.
Gun control supporters need to think about what happens when people are not allowed to have weapons. When people can’t defend themselves, they are left vulnerable to bad leaders, and history shows this can have terrible consequences. For example, Native Americans were disarmed, which left them defenseless when they were forced off their land and many were killed.
In the 1940s, Jews in Germany and Poland were stripped of their rights, including their right to own weapons. This left them helpless during the Holocaust. A population without weapons is at the mercy of its government, and if that government turns bad, like it did under Hitler, Stalin, and Mao, the results can be devastating. Under Stalin, millions of Russians who might have fought back could not, and the same thing happened in China under Mao’s rule, where millions lost their lives.
The lesson is clear: unarmed people are at the mercy of tyrants. When those in power know that citizens have no way to fight back, the chance of abuse goes up. It’s not an exaggeration to say that gun control can lead to terrible atrocities—history proves this.
The push for gun control today is not just about keeping people safe—it seems to be about controlling people. Powerful figures and secretive groups are pushing an anti-gun agenda while pretending it’s for public safety. Take George Soros, for example. He has been banned from some countries for stirring up trouble, yet he is still active in the United States. Soros and his network use their money and media influence to push for disarming the public. Other powerful people like Bill Gates, the Rothschild family, and Michael Bloomberg also support the anti-gun movement and have strong connections to Soros through groups like the Bilderberg Group. These people, with all their power and wealth, seem to have the same goal: a population that is unarmed and easy to control.
When people like this push for gun control, we should be asking: what is their real goal? It seems like they want complete control over the American people. Gun control supporters often paint a perfect picture where the government protects everyone and people don’t need to defend themselves. But history shows us that governments can fail—or worse, they can become the enemy. Taking away people’s right to defend themselves takes away the most basic protection against abuse. When all the power is in the hands of the government, citizens have no way to fight back if those in charge decide to act unfairly. It’s easy to say these things could never happen again, but history has a way of repeating itself if we don’t learn from it.
The truth is, taking away people’s guns doesn’t make us safer. It makes us weaker. It encourages people with bad intentions because they know no one will be able to stop them right away. It turns ordinary people into victims who can’t protect themselves or others when danger strikes. Instead of pushing for more gun control that weakens the public, we should support responsible gun ownership and make sure that good people can protect their families, their communities, and themselves.
The right to bear arms isn’t just an old idea from the past; it is a key protection for the future. Gun control may look like it makes people safer, but in reality, it often turns people into easy targets. True safety comes not from taking guns away from law-abiding citizens, but from making sure that those who want to do harm are met by people who are ready and able to defend themselves and others.
