Ionia County parent joins calls for Whitmer to reject voucher program
Some Michigan education advocates and residents are urging Gov. Gretchen Whitmer not to opt into a federal education voucher tax credit program tied to the Educational Choice for Children Act.
Rachel Gross, a mother of four and nurse in Ionia County, said private schools are scarce in rural communities and warned that voucher programs could weaken public schools that also serve as local employers.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury has released only a preview of the program rules. Once draft rules are published, Michiganders will have 60 days to submit public comments before final rules go to Whitmer for a decision.
