East Lansing police open internal review after arrest video circulates

East Lansing police opened an internal investigation after a social media video showed officers handcuffing and arresting a Black woman in downtown East Lansing over the weekend.

The video shows the woman lying on her stomach as several officers arrest her. At least one officer appears to hit her several times while she is on the ground.

The department said the video does not show the entire incident and said it will review body-worn camera footage and other materials. Police have not released details on what prompted the response or exactly when the incident occurred.

The NAACP Lansing Branch called for the immediate release of full body camera footage and identified the woman as 20-year-old Myana Collins. The organization said Collins was taken to a hospital, later released and has not been charged with a crime, according to her family.
