Trump says fuel prices may stay high as Iran keeps strait blockade

Iran said Saturday it would keep enforcing its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz until the U.S. accepts what Tehran called defeat, while President Donald Trump told Americans to expect continued high gasoline prices during the war.

Trump told a Friday rally in New York that paying more for gasoline was worth the cost of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, one of his stated rationales for the conflict. The average U.S. gasoline price was about $4.08 a gallon Friday, up 29% from a year earlier, according to the American Automobile Association.

Peace talks and tanker traffic through the strait remained halted, with only two vessels passing through Friday and no visible crude oil shipments, according to Kpler analysis. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said more financial measures against Iran were expected next week.
