Republican nominee in Wisconsin House race draws scrutiny over family ties
Michael Alfonso, the 26-year-old Republican nominee in Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, is running against Democratic former state Rep. Fred Clark in November.
Alfonso is the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and is seeking the House seat Duffy held before leaving Congress in 2020. President Trump endorsed Alfonso in January and called him a “MAGA Warrior.”
The New York Times reported that Duffy donated $1 million from his previous congressional campaign to Alfonso’s campaign. Alfonso’s age and limited political experience have prompted accusations of nepotism tied to his marriage to Evita Duffy-Alfonso.
