Judge blocks planned FBI headquarters move to Washington office complex

A federal judge on Monday blocked the Trump administration from moving FBI headquarters to a federal office building in Washington, ruling that officials unlawfully discarded an earlier plan to build a new facility in Greenbelt, Maryland.

U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang barred the administration from relocating the bureau to the Reagan Building, renovating it for FBI use or repurposing funds set aside for the project. Maryland and Prince George’s County brought the lawsuit.

The FBI said the court intervened for political reasons and that the agency would continue pursuing the best course for law enforcement. Maryland officials said the ruling cleared the way for the headquarters to return to the Greenbelt plan.
