Homicide investigation opened after inmate found dead in Ionia County prison

Michigan State Police are investigating the suspected homicide of Kevin Joseph Kelly, 36, who was found dead Wednesday evening in his two-person cell at Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia County.

Staff found Kelly and called emergency services. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The manner of death has not been released. Kelly had been sentenced to prison in September 2025 for aggravated stalking.
