Second suspected homicide under investigation at Ionia prison this year

A death at Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility in Ionia is being investigated as a suspected homicide, the second such investigation at the prison in less than five months.

Kevin Joseph Kelly, 36, was found unresponsive in a two-person cell Wednesday evening and was pronounced dead at the scene after staff called EMS. Michigan State Police are investigating, and the corrections department declined to provide further details.

Joshua McGehee, 40, was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the facility on March 27. The prison houses men serving state sentences.
