Michigan broadens free community college scholarship eligibility

Michigan has permanently expanded the Reconnect Scholarship to cover residents age 21 and older who attend their in-county community college for free. Applicants must have lived in Michigan for at least one year and not hold a college degree.

A temporary expansion in the 2023-24 school year helped about 750 students, according to Washtenaw Community College Vice President for Student Services Clarence Jennings. Colleges expect strong interest in the expanded program beginning this fall.
