Lansing battery plant begins production after $2 billion investment

LG Energy Solution began producing electric-vehicle batteries at its 226-acre Lansing facility, which received more than $2 billion in investment and currently employs 900 people.

The plant is expected to employ up to 1,700 people at full capacity and produce as much as 35 gigawatt-hours annually. It will make nickel-manganese-cobalt battery modules for Toyota’s upcoming electric three-row SUV and lithium-iron-phosphate cells for energy-storage systems, with Tesla identified as a key customer.
