Scott backs Graham ahead of South Carolina Senate runoff

Sen. Tim Scott defended Sen. Darline Graham on Sunday ahead of Tuesday’s Republican primary runoff in South Carolina, calling her qualified and saying he was very confident she would win. Graham faces Rep. Ralph Norman after a debate answer in which she said national security was not her area of expertise but that she supported the military.

Graham was appointed last month to serve the remainder of her late brother’s Senate term and is seeking election to a full term. President Donald Trump and Scott have endorsed her.

Scott also defended Republican attacks on Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed, citing El-Sayed’s campaign appearances with Twitch streamer Hasan Piker. Scott criticized Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico in Texas and declined to say whether Republican candidate Ken Paxton has the character to serve in the Senate.
