MSU students’ return boosts Greater Lansing businesses

More than 50,000 Michigan State University students are expected back on campus this week, including more than 12,000 new students. Their return is bringing more customers to restaurants, hotels, grocery stores and retailers across the Greater Lansing area.

The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce estimates students living in the area generate an economic impact of $18 million to $30 million per month. Move-in began Friday, with Tuesday and Wednesday expected to be among the busiest days as students settle in.

The busy stretch will continue with the start of classes and Michigan State football, while businesses across the region prepare for increased activity.
