Lansing council votes to end contracts for automated license plate cameras

The Lansing City Council adopted a resolution Monday directing Mayor Andy Schor and the Lansing Police Department to terminate the city’s contracts with Flock Safety, which provides automated license plate readers.

Residents opposed the cameras during the meeting, citing civil liberties concerns. Lansing and Jackson police departments have said the technology helps locate missing people, investigate human trafficking cases and catch thieves.
