Poll finds voters favor enforcing current gun laws over new bans

A nationwide Rasmussen survey released Tuesday found that 52% of likely voters believe stricter enforcement of existing firearms laws would be more effective at reducing violent gun crime, while 34% favored passing new legislation. Support for enforcement rose two points from September last year.

The poll showed a partisan divide, with 79% of Democrats favoring stricter gun regulations compared with 29% of Republicans. The survey comes as the Supreme Court prepares to hear consolidated challenges to state and local bans on certain semi-automatic firearms during its term beginning in October.
