Recall effort against Clinton County prosecutor to be resubmitted

The Board of State Canvassers rejected two proposed recall petitions targeting Clinton County Prosecutor Tony Spagnuolo because the wording was deemed unsuitable for circulation.

Lisa Rousseau, a St. Johns resident and Ovid police chief, said she plans to revise and resubmit the petitions within the next week. The effort stems from a dispute over an affidavit Spagnuolo signed in a civil lawsuit involving Rousseau and the city.

Board members cited unclear references to Rousseau, insufficient identification of Spagnuolo and claims that he violated professional conduct rules without a formal State Bar finding. The petitions must be approved before recall signatures can be collected.
