Trial opens in Lansing abduction and murder case

An Ingham County prosecutor told jurors Tuesday that surveillance video, DNA and cellphone photographs will link Jacob Montalvo to the 2023 abduction and killing of Alicia Gallegos in Lansing. Prosecutors allege Montalvo grabbed Gallegos from a downtown street and left her body along a rural road in White Oak Township.

Montalvo, 60, faces open-murder and unlawful-imprisonment charges. His attorney said the case relies on circumstantial evidence and lacks physical evidence directly connecting Montalvo to the crime. Testimony was continuing this week and was expected to last about five days.
