U.S. designates Italy-based digital collective as global terrorist group

The State and Treasury departments designated Autistici/Inventati, an Italy-based extremist group, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist on Wednesday, citing its alleged support for violent far-left networks.

The designation blocks the group’s property and interests in property subject to U.S. jurisdiction and generally bars U.S. persons from conducting transactions with it. Violations may bring civil or criminal penalties, and some foreign financial institutions could face secondary sanctions.

The action was taken under Executive Order 13224 and is part of a broader U.S. effort to address what it called transnational far-left terrorism.
