Michigan lawmaker attacks El-Sayed’s policies as socialist

Michigan state Rep. Bill G. Schuette said Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s policy agenda reflects socialism and predicted Michigan voters will reject it in November.

El-Sayed, who narrowly won the Democratic Senate primary earlier this month, has rejected the socialist label. He has said he supports regulated capitalism and seeks a broad coalition of voters.

El-Sayed will face Republican nominee Mike Rogers in the November general election for the seat held by retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters. Schuette criticized El-Sayed’s support for policies including Medicare for All, taxing billionaire wealth and abolishing ICE.
