Arms treaty conference highlights South African police gun-diversion case

South Africa is presiding over the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty’s 12th Conference of States Parties, meeting Aug. 24-28 in Geneva. The National Association for Gun Rights sent its president, Dudley Brown, to address the conference.

The group cited a study linking firearms diverted from South African police storage between 2007 and 2015 to 1,066 murders from 2010 to 2016. A later lawsuit alleges the guns killed more than 1,000 people, including at least 67 children, and injured thousands more.
