New Hampshire Senate candidate calls for less donor influence in politics

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Karishma Manzur said candidates and elected officials should answer to voters rather than donors as she campaigns in New Hampshire’s open Sept. 8 primary. Manzur is challenging Chris Pappas for the Democratic nomination after Sen. Jeanne Shaheen said she would not seek reelection.

Manzur said the federal government should increase funding for affordable housing and address health care, child care and housing shortages. She also called for limits on private-equity ownership of single-family homes.

On foreign policy, Manzur criticized President Donald Trump’s Feb. 28 attack on Iran, saying it was based on faulty intelligence and that Congress should provide greater oversight of the conflict.
