Trump orders Lake Ontario renamed ‘Lake America’

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Thursday renaming Lake Ontario “Lake America,” saying the change was effective immediately. The order cited the lake’s waters and its role in American exploration, commerce and defense.

Canadian officials rejected the change. Prime Minister Mark Carney said the name Lake Ontario predates both Canada and the United States, while a Canadian minister said, “We’ll always call it Lake Ontario.”
