El-Sayed apologizes for comments about Michigan synagogue attack

Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed apologized Saturday for comments about a March attack on a Michigan synagogue, saying he did not intend to justify the violence.

El-Sayed said his remark that “hurt people, hurt people” may have been misconstrued. He said the attack was condemned outright and that his attempt to provide context came at a time when he should not have trampled on victims’ pain.

He addressed reporters during the state Democratic Party convention in Lansing, where questions also focused on his relationship with online streamer Hasan Piker and divisions among Michigan Democrats over Israel and Gaza.
