Billy Strings says Ionia Freak Fair proceeds will support local projects

Billy Strings said proceeds from his Ionia Freak Fair will support projects in the county after organizers finish calculating expenses from the late-August festival. He said plans include funding a new roof for the Ionia theater, providing money to Ionia Public Schools and donating any remaining funds to the city.

The event drew about 30,000 people to the Ionia County Fairgrounds and featured bluegrass, metal and Michigan artists. Strings said the festival was intended as a one-time event, though he has not ruled out discussing another edition with his team.
