Kazakhstan’s inflation dips below 10% as price pressures remain uneven

Kazakhstan’s annual inflation slowed to 9.8% in August from 10.2% in July, according to national statistics. Monthly inflation held at 0.6% for a second straight month.

Seasonal food-price declines drove much of the improvement, while non-food prices rose 11.4% from a year earlier and paid services increased 8.9%. An economist said imported costs, logistics and financing could continue pushing prices higher.

The end of seasonal food declines will test whether inflation continues to ease. Officials and economists will be watching monthly price growth, non-food goods and services, and regional differences in the months ahead.
