New faith-based school opens in Lansing after spring staff walkout

Hope Christian School has opened in Lansing, offering families a new faith-based education option after contract disputes at Lansing Christian School led to a staff walkout and a two-day class closure last spring.

About 120 students enrolled for the fall semester, with 30 educators on staff. The school operates from a church building in Lansing’s Old Everett neighborhood, and several departing Lansing Christian employees helped establish it.

Classes are set to begin outdoors at a nature center on Sept. 8 while permanent facilities are prepared. Students are expected to move into the new classrooms on Sept. 14.
