U.S. says it disabled three Iranian oil tankers after missile attacks

The U.S. military said Saturday it struck three Iranian oil tankers after U.S. Navy warships came under multiple missile attacks. Two tankers were permanently disabled and a third, which was unladen, was destroyed, the military said.

The strikes occurred near an oil-export terminal, near a port east of a strategic strait and in the Gulf of Oman. The military said no U.S. personnel were injured and described the tankers as part of a network that funded Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and regional armed groups.

The attacks came as fighting resumed after a month of relative calm and negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program collapsed. Traffic through the strategic strait remains low, while U.S. forces help guide ships through the waterway.
