Inmate dies in suspected homicide at Carson City prison
An inmate at the Carson City Correctional Facility was found unresponsive in his two-person cell early Sunday and later pronounced dead, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections. Officials identified the death as a suspected homicide.
State police are investigating, and the inmate’s 26-year-old cellmate is a suspect. Officials declined to release additional information because the investigation remains ongoing.
The inmate had been serving a sentence for first-degree criminal sexual conduct and was housed in the facility’s level IV security unit. Six inmates died at the prison between September 2025 and August 2026, according to a state prisoner mortality report.
