Afghan war translator faces deportation over alleged terrorist ties

An Afghan man who legally entered the United States after working with U.S. forces is in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody and facing deportation over allegations that he provided material support to a terrorist organization and misrepresented information on a naturalization application.

The man, who holds a green card and lives in the St. Louis area, denies the allegations. His family says officials have linked the case to a 2018 trip to Afghanistan, while military records and former officers document his work as a linguist, interpreter and adviser alongside American and Afghan forces.

His case is part of a broader increase in immigration enforcement. ICE reported nearly 50,000 arrests nationwide in July, while deportations in Missouri have nearly tripled. His immigration court hearing is scheduled for Sept. 14 in Kansas City.
