Mid-American conference appeals Western Michigan loss to Michigan
The Mid-American Conference (MAC) is appealing Western Michigan's loss to the Michigan Wolverines after a controversial Hail Mary pass that gave Michigan the win on Saturday. MAC Commissioner Dr. Jon Steinbrecher stated that replay protocol was not properly followed, leading to an incorrect ruling that one second remained on the game clock, allowing Michigan to score a touchdown.
Steinbrecher explained that the established replay protocol requires the use of the program-feed clock to determine remaining time, but the Big Ten Conference replay crew used a different clock feed, resulting in an additional play being awarded to Michigan. The MAC has submitted formal appeals to the NCAA FBS Oversight Committee and the College Football Playoff, requesting that Western Michigan be recognized as the winner of the game.
