Fatal crash near Williamston, Old Town death under investigation

A Ford Explorer struck two cyclists Saturday east of Williamston, killing a 12-year-old boy and critically injuring his 13-year-old sister. The siblings were riding on the shoulder of Grand River Avenue near N. Meech Road. The girl is being treated for a severe head injury, while the 64-year-old Williamston driver was not injured.

Lansing police are investigating the death of a 57-year-old man found unconscious near Old Town on Aug. 30 as a homicide. The man had facial trauma and later died. Police are awaiting additional information from the medical examiner about the cause of death.

In a separate case, Ingham County prosecutors charged Edward Joseph Smith with open murder in the Aug. 20 stabbing death of Daniel Lusk. Smith, charged as a habitual second offender, is being held without bond.
