Trump says Irish unification would be ‘fantastic’

Donald Trump visited Ireland on Saturday, announcing his support for a united Ireland and meeting Prime Minister Micheal Martin in Dublin. He said reunification of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland would be "a fantastic thing" and that it could happen "eventually".

The visit was part of a two‑day tour that included a security operation costing 20 million euros and mobilising at least 4,000 police and other personnel. Trump landed at Dublin airport before 8:25 a.m. And later made a dramatic landing aboard Marine One on the 18th green of the Irish Open.

Protesters rallied at lunchtime in Dublin, chanting "Donald Trump's not welcome here" and waving Palestinian flags, while smaller demonstrations occurred at Shannon Airport and Doonbeg. The trip also coincided with the Irish Open, where 40,000 fans are expected to watch the tournament over the weekend.
