Analyst forecasts S&P 500 to peak at 8,250 before falling 21% next year

Analyst James Reilly at Capital Economics forecasted that the S&P 500 would close 2026 at 8,250, up 7.7% from Friday’s close, and then fall 21% to 6,500 by the end of 2027.

Reilly cited several bubble indicators, including valuations near dotcom peaks, earnings growth, AI investment, market‑cap concentration, and equity issuance.

The 10‑year Treasury yield reached 4.97% on Friday, and Ruchir Sharma noted that yields above 5% could signal a tighter money era. Wall Street veteran Ed Yardeni lowered the odds of a bullish scenario for the decade from 80% to 70% and raised bearish odds from 20% to 30%.
