Cosatu’s 15th national Congress to test alliance with ANC and SACP
Cosatu’s 15th national congress will take place in Midrand, Johannesburg, Monday to Thursday, following a CEC meeting on Aug 24‑25 that reviewed progress since the 14th congress in 2022. The congress will elect a president, two deputy presidents, a general secretary, deputy general secretary, and national treasurer.
The congress will test the alliance with ANC and SACP and address workers’ concerns, including a speech by SA Federation of Trade Unions general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi to National Education and Allied Workers Union affiliates in Brandfort, Free State. The department of employment & labour will hold awareness sessions on the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Disease Act in Kimberley, the Northern Cape, Monday to Tuesday.
The National Empowerment Fund and the National Youth Development Agency will sign an agreement on Monday establishing the National Youth Fund, while the Madlanga commission resumes its sittings on Tuesday and the French Institute of South Africa will host Europe Talks at the University of Cape Town on Wednesday.
