Dansville schools shift employees to 20% health insurance payments

Dansville Schools employees who paid nothing toward health insurance for 13 years now cover 20% of their premiums under a one-year arrangement approved for 2026, Superintendent Jennifer Wonnell said.

The district previously avoided employee premium payments by moving from MESSA coverage to a high-deductible plan. Rising costs beginning in January 2025 made the 80–20 arrangement less expensive for all but seven employees than the state’s hard-cap option. The district has not decided how it will handle premiums in 2027.
