Portland mayor resigns immediately after 27 years of service

Portland Mayor James Barnes resigned Wednesday from the City Council and all city boards, committees and duties, effective immediately. No reason was given for the resignation.

Mayor Pro Tem Joel VanSlambrouck became mayor under the city charter. City Manager Andrew Dymczyk said city operations will continue normally while the council follows the charter process to fill the vacancies.
