Supreme Court blocks mail limits as Senate advances Voter ID bill

The Supreme Court blocked mail-in-ballot restrictions proposed by the Trump administration, ruling 7-2. Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented and said the U.S. Postal Service should control decisions about mail validity.

The Senate also advanced a bill requiring voters to present valid photo identification or submit an affidavit for an exemption. The measure mirrors the proposed SAVE Act, which Rep. John Olszewski opposed.
