Canada demand and refinery maintenance push Michigan gas prices higher

Michigan gas prices have reached $4.99 a gallon in the Lansing area as demand from Canada and Midwest refinery maintenance pressure supplies, economist Zachary Cohle of Saginaw Valley State University said.

Cohle said Michigan producers are sending more fuel to Canada, where prices are higher, while scheduled and unscheduled refinery work is adding to the strain. He said prices may have reached their peak but are unlikely to return to reasonable levels for at least the next couple of months amid uncertainty in the Middle East.
