Eaton County prosecutor’s handling of past cases draws scrutiny in AG race

Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd’s handling of two sexual-abuse investigations is drawing scrutiny as he campaigns for Michigan attorney general. In 2015, his office dropped charges against a Charlotte man accused of assaulting and trying to strangle a 10-year-old girl, citing insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

In 2019, Lloyd said he lacked enough evidence to charge former gymnastics coach John Geddert after an Eaton County investigation. Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office later took over and filed 24 charges against Geddert in 2021. Geddert died by suicide the same day he was scheduled to be arraigned.
