MSU links widespread campus outage to power Plant issue

Michigan State University said a widespread power outage that darkened much of its East Lansing campus Saturday was caused by an issue at the T.B. Simon Power Plant. Officials did not specify what failed, and large areas remained without power more than five hours after the outage began around 4:15 p.m.

The outage affected cellular service, WKAR broadcasts, dining operations and campus events, including a Wharton Center performance and an MSU volleyball match. The university said crews were working to restore power and that there was no threat beyond the outage itself.
