Michigan gas prices surge as Traverse City remains among the cheapest

Michigan’s average price for regular gasoline rose 62 cents in one week to $4.93 per gallon, the highest average of 2026, AAA Michigan reported. The average is up 72 cents from a month ago and $1.75 from the same time last year.

Traverse City’s average was $4.85 per gallon, second-lowest among the Michigan cities tracked by AAA. Filling a 15-gallon tank now costs about $74, roughly $23 more than the state’s highest average price in August 2025.
