Virginia House race draws National focus as early voting begins

Republican Rep. Rob Wittman is facing Democratic challenger Shannon Taylor in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, a race national groups view as potentially important to control of the U.S. House. The traditionally Republican district shifted toward Democrats in last year’s governor’s race, and early voting is underway.

Wittman is defending his record on health care, inflation and energy costs while backing changes to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act subsidies. Taylor is campaigning on restoring that funding and requiring data-center developers to cover related infrastructure costs.
