Chatfield trial delayed as defense Appeals evidence ruling

Former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield’s embezzlement trial was indefinitely delayed Monday after an Ingham County judge ruled that a jury could hear testimony from a forensic accountant. Chatfield’s defense is appealing the decision.

Judge Morgan Cole stayed the trial, which had been scheduled to begin Tuesday, pending the appeal. The Michigan Court of Appeals must rule before a new trial date can be set. Chatfield faces 13 felony charges and has pleaded not guilty.
