U.S. ends decades of Syria sanctions as former foes reshape the country

The United States Last month rescinded Syria’s designation as a state Sponsor of terrorism, removed Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham from its terrorism designations and lifted major sanctions, including congressional restrictions under the Caesar Act. The moves ended nearly five decades of U.S. Economic isolation of Syria.

The Syrian Democratic Forces also dissolved their militia and announced integration into the Syrian army. The policy shift follows years of U.S. Efforts that defeated ISIS but, According to a former U.S. Official, failed to produce a broader strategy for Syria’s political conflict and contributed to limited American influence over the war’s outcome.
