Everton Blair welcomed as Georgia’s first openly gay member of Congress

Everton Blair Jr. Received honors at events connected to the Congressional Black Caucus’ Annual Legislative Conference, marking his first appearance as a lawmaker rather than an attendee. Blair is Georgia’s first openly gay member of Congress and represents a district outside Atlanta.

Blair, the American-born son of Jamaican immigrants, also co-hosted an event with Congress’ two other Caribbean American lawmakers. He said his election should help normalize leadership by people from diverse backgrounds.
