Michigan gas prices hit new 2026 high, up 62 cents per gallon

Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.93 per gallon for regular unleaded, a 62‑cent jump from last week and 72 cents above the same period last month. The increase translates to about $74 for a full 15‑gallon tank, up roughly $23 from the August 2025 high.

Energy Information Administration data show gasoline demand climbing from 8.55 to 8.79 million barrels per day, while domestic supply rose from 206.9 to 207.7 million barrels and production from 9.3 to 9.6 million barrels. WTI settled at $100.30 a barrel, down $1.61 from Friday, and U.S. Crude inventories fell 0.6 million barrels to 423.4 million, 1% above the five‑year average.

Metro Detroit’s average price is $4.92 per gallon, 62 cents higher than last week and $1.73 above last year. The most expensive fill‑ups are in Ann Arbor at $4.97, while Marquette offers the lowest at $4.79. AAA’s mobile app lets motorists map routes, find discounts, book hotels, and access roadside assistance, and members can enroll in Shell’s Fuel Rewards program for 30‑cent savings on the first fill‑up and 5‑cent savings on subsequent trips.
