General Motors invests $1.5M to boost STEM education across Michigan

General Motors has contributed $1.5 million to the MiSTEM Network, bringing the total investment to $2.5 million. The donation is aimed at advancing STEM education statewide, preparing Michigan students for high‑demand careers in STEAM.

The partnership links GM, the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s MiSTEM Network, and MTEC SmartZone to create dynamic learning environments that connect students with real‑world industry experiences. MTEC SmartZone coordinates the administration of the funds.

The grant will support elementary (K‑5) programming focused on in‑ and out‑of‑school learning, and will fund the publication and enhancement of a publicly available Michigan STEM learning asset map. The investment also matches a state contribution of $680,000 for each of the 16 MiSTEM Network Regions, and has already exceeded projections by over 300% with more than 31,000 students, educators, and community partners joining.
