Arson suspect charged after Lyons House fire

Ethan Shattuck, 29, of Lyons, was arraigned Friday on charges of second‑degree arson and lying to a police officer after a house on John Street was destroyed by a fire that broke out early Thursday morning.

At least four fire departments responded to the blaze at about 5:45 a.m. Thursday, dousing the fire but the house was destroyed. Deputies said the fire may have been set on purpose and found evidence of arson. Shattuck was identified as the suspect and arrested.

The sheriff’s office set Shattuck’s bond at $30,000, and if convicted he faces up to 20 years in prison. The fire remains under investigation Friday. Anyone with information can call the sheriff’s office at 616.527.5737 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
