Michigan Wolverines edge Iowa, coach optimistic about season

Michigan heads into week 5 of the college football season with a 3-1 overall record and a 0-1 record in Big Ten games. Head coach Kyle Whittingham said the team is one play away from a 4-0 start and a 2-2 conference record.

The Wolverines secured wins over Western Michigan, No. 11 Oklahoma, and UTEP, and suffered a loss to Iowa. Underwood has thrown for 780 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions, and added 192 rushing yards and two more touchdowns.

Whittingham highlighted progress in the offense, the offensive line, and the need to reduce penalties, improve red‑zone execution, and win the turnover margin. The team will travel to Minnesota this week for its first Big Ten win of the season.
