Sugar Loaf Scenic Area to reopen on Oct. 9 after 26-year closure

The Leelanau Conservancy has secured the $8 million needed to reopen Sugar Loaf Scenic Area on Oct. 9, 2026, after a 26‑year hiatus.

The 285‑acre property will feature new mountain‑biking and hiking trails, replacing the former ski resort infrastructure that closed in 2000.

The grand opening will take place at 5 p.m. On Oct. 9, With staff, board members, and community members invited to attend.
