Lansing’s Preuss Pets combines animal care with Education

The family-run Preuss Pets in Lansing’s Old Town has grown from a small pet shop into a roughly 23,000-square-foot store with about 70 staff members. The business moved to its current location in 2005, after earlier operating in Pennsylvania and Haslett.

The store houses a range of exotic animals and sells pet supplies. It also hosts care clinics and community events, welcomes school field trips, and operates a classroom, animal boarding and aquarium services. Staff provide guidance on the care animals need, while a quarantine room is used to observe incoming fish before they reach the sales floor.

The Preuss family describes the business as a pet store with a purpose, emphasizing animal welfare and education. The store marked its 44th anniversary this year.
